The Denzel Group in Upper Macungie Township offers permanent (direct) placement, staff augmentation (IT Staffing) and executive search services – specializing in finding critically talented IT professionals, enabling organizations to effectively respond to changes in workforce demands. Its client base is the Mid-Atlantic region (PA, NJ, DE, MD) and is now extending to upstate New York. Andrew Denzel is president and founder of the firm.
LVB: When did you start the Denzel Group and why?
Denzel: I started the firm in 2006. After a strong start, I actually sold the assets of the business in 2010 and restarted the business in early 2012. I saw an opportunity to partner with organizations to help them elevate their current IT environments. There was a clear lack/gap of recruiting/staffing companies becoming true partners with end using organizations which we’ve been able to fill.
LVB: You specialize in IT hiring. How is that different from other staffing agencies?
Denzel: Many of our competitors’ recruit in not only the IT space but many other functional areas. At The Denzel Group we recruit exclusively in the IT space. Our primary goal is to simplify and personalize the complicated search and recruiting process of finding exceptionally talented IT professionals for both the job seeker and the employer. To do this, we believe it takes a personalized, consultative approach to match the right candidate with the right company.
LVB: What are the challenges in IT hiring right now?
Denzel: The market has definitely been a challenge, with unemployment and more specifically IT unemployment at record lows (less than 1 percent) – finding key talent for our clients in a candidate-driven market is a constant challenge. I believe our team members are experts at identifying and placing top-tier candidates. A large part of what we are doing is educating both clients and prospects on what the current talent pool looks like for IT professionals. The days of finding an exact candidate for an opening are gone. The reality is if you can find a candidate who is close from a technical perspective but has the aptitude and attitude to do well in your organization you need to hire them. If you don’t your role may stay open for 6, 7, 8+ months…
LVB: You’ve been growing. What do you attribute The Denzel Group’s growth to?
Denzel: Yes, we have been. We’ve been on the Inc. 5000 (a list of the fastest growing companies in the US by sales percent growth) 3 of the past 4 years and on the Lehigh Valley Business fastest growing list the past 6 years. We have added multiple new team members who each bring tremendous value to our outstanding team. We have also expanded our geographies working with new clients while nurturing relationships with repeat clients. Finally, and perhaps most importantly we have a database that we’ve cultivated over the past 13 years that companies don’t have access to. Most companies have LinkedIn Recruiter and various other job boards/sites to find candidates, but they don’t have the depth we do from our database where over the past 12 months we’ve made more than 70 percent of both our contract and permanent placements.
LVB: What’s next for your company?
Denzel: We are projecting 2019 to be a huge year for our organization and look forward to continuing this growth. We see large growth coming from our Staff Augmentation (Contract) service as companies are having more of an appetite to bring on contractors to find niche’ and hard to find skill-sets on both a project basis or contract to hire (temp to hire) arrangement.
